A magnet can't turn them without something turning the magnet, and the energy it takes to turn the magnet, which in turn, turns the motor, will always be greater than the energy you create.
A magnet can only move something so far, then it meets an opposing force that's exactly equal and exactly opposite, and everything stops moving. (without a greater force to overcome it)
with electro magnets maybe but what about permanent magnets? how about this gismo! it only needs starting with power then powers its self [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST3A4hQH8Ao&feature=related[/ame] |
and those of us that do actually put up mileage? and use all roads? .... were do we fit in to this great plan?
Of course we have still to get to any of the other users of petroleum products either, where are the plans for the battery powered vehicles that haul all these batteries around the world? Do you have plans to hop onboard a battery powered passenger flight anytime soon? Simple fact is batteries replacing petroleum is not viable, its not going to be viable for a long time, and with any luck something better will be developed before it could ever become viable ...... battery power is a novel idea and may be viable for the ecofriendly city commuter but its real world value outside of that is limited
you fit in by adapting simple as! when you cant get petrol what are you going to do except watch electric bikes pass you by! these electric powered vehicles that hall batteries around the world as you say only have to deliver them once dont they! its not as if they will be doing laps now is it?:rolleyes2: if you knew anything about jet engines and passenger flights then you would know they dont run on petrol although they can! jet engines will burn almost anything look them up :thumbsup2: so there isnt a big problem there! gas! batteries are a novel idea yet we are surrounded by them at every minute of every day! ah ye they are only a fad like :bag: the world is only using petrol 100 years but man managed to survive till now didnt we! just because its the first choice doesnt mean its the only choice! |

how about this gismo! it only needs starting with power then powers its self To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater.
Permanent magnets can't do anything on their own apart from push an opposing (like pole) away, or pull an opposite pole towards itself, and it can only do that until the next magnet approaches, (or the same one rotetes towards its original position), and then it gets pushed in the opposite direction. For the magnet to push (or pull) something, whatever the magnet is attached to must exert a force (in the case of a motor, a rotational force), that is greater than the opposing force, or nothing moves, and because no generator can be efficient, you can't produce enough energy to even come close to providing the driving force with enough energy to evercome the opposing force from the generator. Even if it was possible to build a 100% efficient generator, the energy lost to friction would still mean it couldn't work. That video is nonsense... they have a power source hidden elsewhere. Even if you believe that the governments would hide the technology, someone (maybe one of those people in the youtube videos) would become the richest man on the planet overnight. |

if you knew anything about jet engines and passenger flights then you would know they dont run on petrol although they can! jet engines will burn almost anything look them up :thumbsup2: so there isnt a big problem there!
I said fook all about them running on petrol, I said petroleum products, aka refined from crude oil, the same stuff everyday petrol and diesel is being refined from, they run on aviation fuel which is petroleum based, so as long unless your magic batteries are going to replace petroleum based fuels in ALL forms of transport across the board then it is a non runner as a petroleum replacement. And unless any of the "almost anything" other fuels that jet engines can burn is NOT petroleum based then your point is meaningless because no matter what it's the same crude oil coming out of the ground to create it Now it's almost 5 in the morning, that's close enough to bed time, I'll get back to the rest of your reply later |

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as 'free' energy :thumbsup2: Of course we're going to reach a stage where we're going to have to rely on electric transport, but it's most likely going to be done by combining hydrogen and oxygen and, which will create an electrical charge and the only byproduct will be water. It's the cleanest fuel cell we have at the moment. The only downfall is the cost of hydrogen (and the catalysts), but if we have no petrol, then that becomes a non-issue :thumbsup2: |
Yup, hydrogen fuel cells have been on the go for years, but they produce about as much power as a good guinness fart, and push bike would be nearly as fast. Unfortunately, the reason we're not riding around on bikes with an alternative fuel source to petrol, is because the technology hasn't been invented yet that can come even close in terms of power output... apart from LiPo batteries, which are massively more expensive and about as green as a hun :D |

Go back and read your physics 101.....
is that the best contribution you can make to the thread ye :rolleyes2: we are never going to fix the worlds energy problems in one little thread on biker.ie but sitting around saying how much you love petrol isnt going to drive you to work in the future is it! I was referring to the shite you posted about magnets being the fookin future !
electric motors are! what ever powers them doesnt give a fuck! just a typical thread getting side tracked! and if not for boggers living in the middle of nowhere it wouldnt have went any further than the bikes you can already buy with 100 mile range and they will only improve! |
