Re: Wheres biking going ?
I'm 21 and none of my friends are on bikes. There was probably about eight lads in my year in school on mopeds or small bikes but not a single one of them has a bike now. Was collecting my brother at the same school during the week and not a bike to be seen up there.
Its expensive to get into biking. By the time a lad can actually afford to get a bike there'll be a woman in his ear about it.. |

Jeysus some readin in this thread now, must be runnin on perpetual motion at this stage :bag: I think My First Suzuki has a point above. Gettin out there is the future ! EVERY time some kid in the back of a cage cops the bike behind them they start wavin at me. In the lac's estate I get 'rev it' gestures from the kids everytime I pass, so I try not disappoint :ninja: The more of us out there the more chance of creating some fascination :thumbsup2: |
I didn't start biking till the my mid twenties, none of my mates had bikes... But a large portion of us loved em.. We hit the road races, Mondello etc. but parental nudges towards cages paid heed to getting one. Fast forward ten years from our driving beginnings and theres 5 of us on bikes now. Only one of whom is a part timer.
We all started on newish 250's and the bought bigger. The stigma attached to biking by the unconverted is always going to be a factor IMHO. Then cost. Then practicality. At 17 did you worry about cost when buying a million pints in a weekend? I didn't Did you worry about practicality when choosing your 1st lads holiday. Cost / practicality don't carry as much weight when your younger. The most important thing for biking is to get off yet hole and get our there. Like an African missionary, spread the word to anyone who will listen!!! |
Riding yer bike is the most important thing. It's supposed to be fun.

Re: Wheres biking going ?
I started my two sons on shitty old field bikes (DT175 and DR 125) when they were 12 so they got lots of experience of falling off and fixing them. They are both good riders now and lifelong bikers. If I live to see grand-kids I will be starting them-on shitty old field bikes. Biking is one of the only freedoms left in this sanitised bureaucratic world. Enjoy:thumbsup2:

That's what it's all about, the fun factor :thumbsup2: No Eurofaggot has the right to take that away from us, but they will try. |
Re: Wheres biking going ?
I'm a 36 year old young lad who has gotten into biking by pure chance only in the last couple of years. I'm one of these lads who like fixing thing's and i met a lad who was scrappin his crashed bike. Been me, i saw a chalenge. Bought it off him for a song, fixed it up and learned to ride it. Got insured and passed my test within the same year.
One thing that always amazing me about bikes.... You never see adds on the telly advertizing the latest and greatest.... Why is that?? Why is there no inspiring TV shows about bikes and the world of biking?? I'm a new biker but i'm here to stay.... |
Re: Wheres biking going ?
I dunno lads, in ireland biking is taking a bit of a hit.
No one can afford them now, my first bike I bought brand new with a loan from the credit union. They couldn't throw the money at me fast enough. Now they won't give me what I have in shares as a loan??? So it's no wonder there is a bit of a lull but it will bounce back. We are a drop in the ocean as far as motorcycle sales are concerned but things are stronger in the uk. The thing I can't understand is why are we not getting offered the 0% loans and deals like the uk? The adds are in all the mags? Euro sales are going ok and they always loved their small capacity race reps, like the rs125 and now the cbr250. As long as the young lads in Spain watching the Moto gp grow up and buy bigger bikes they will be supplied. I still recon deisel bikes will be the next thing before electric, hydrogen or em WIND power! |
Re: Wheres biking going ?
Im 25, been on bikes for 6-7yrs. I think the RSA have alot to answer for, with the amount of tests and the cost now to get on the road.
I used to have a much faster bike, it all stopped when a cage pulled clean out in front of me, and i left my bike in his door as i sailed over his roof. Bikers know d danger, but ya dust urself off, n get on with it.. However, Severer testing needs to be there, to stop these dopes from gettin on the road. I know im young, and the amount of shocked faces i get, when i remove my lid, and people see a young lad riding a GL1200.. but the truth is, irish roads are shite, and the only bikes that can comfortable take em, in most conditions, are tourers, BMW GS's etc.. I regularly commute dublin - cork, and apart frm being a boring ride now with the motorway, (and tolling bikes i believe is another story) the old road (durrow, abbeyleix..) isnt as fun as it was 3-4yrs ago. My choice in bikes are, to most impractical, but i dont care, they do it for me. I clock up high miles, i love peeling back the throttle, and listening to the old horse rear up..and leave all behind... I can go anywhere, take as much as i want, and still power down the road, equal to most bikes, with dacent fuel economy, 35euro Dublin-Cork, way cheaper tax, and rarely get held up in traffic..for d size of d bike its really weird, a headlight flash d odd time seems to move cars aside, even for a big half ton auld hewer of a yoke, bt "im only saying hello.?..guard..honest" ;) |
