Biking is going down a blind alley .what we have is as good as it gets and lawas and legisatlation will end it all soon enough. theres fuck all new blood in bikes anymore , id say the majority of us are over 35 now. we are dying off .
That sums it up.have a look at the age profile of the bikers ya know.mostly over 35 like chop says.I am on bikes since 16years of age, and just turned forty, not one of the lads I knocked around with are still biking.out all day yesterday and every group of bikers I saw in filling stations etc was the wrong side of 35.I know there are exceptions but I wonder if this is the golden age of biking

Yep they want to ban them after all and getting a licence over here now just turns everybody off!
when all us ole fukkers die off so will biking!
its just silly money at the mo to fill a tank so you will plug it in or get the bus..
I can see at least big modded bikes like mine being shed ornaments in our life time..
look what happened to cages when the NCT came in it wiped half of the old guzzlers out! at some stage they will test bikes
there wont be any advancements made by Irish bikers anyway cause they seem to all live 101 miles from work so they will be to tired to think by the time they get there and sure when they do they only do 360s!

It is sad . Totally agree. I will be 66 next birthday. Worked on bikes as my hobby since I was a kid. I thought my own two lads might have an interest but it never happened. Lost my wife a few weeks back and the one thing keeping me going is the bike. I hope to be riding it for a few more years.
These things are cyclical no pun intended. Young lads and ladies will discover the joys of biking again. It's too much fun for it to die off.

Sadly it's dying off, I was always mad for a bike and eventually got one nearly two years ago, none of my mates are into bikes and couldn't be arsed, and with all the shite one has to do to get a feckin licence its goin downhill:mad1:

Re: Wheres biking going ?

Unless the factories start building fun low powered bikes that are perceived to be 'cool' looking by their mates then it only going to go one way. Unfortunately we are going to need something like the long way round tv shows and what it did for adventure bikes. Young lads have no interest in sitting on a under powered bike waiting for there restriction to pass by. They need a good marketing machine to get younger generations into biking.

In one sense I wonder are the manufactures happy to be selling their sports bikes and adventure bikes to the 30-50yr olds who have the spare cash to buy the latest most have items. They don't seem to be too bothered/interested in the fact that there aren't a new generation of learners coming along. Even going back 10-15yrs ago there were young lads going around on 50cc scooters but they're becoming an extinct breed too.

Isn't the power restriction being increased to 40 something Kw next year?

To be fair, in my day (passed me test in the early nineties when in 3rd level) ya turned up, made sure the bike was taxed and not pissin oil amd ya did ur test. If ya passed, that was it, so it was a lot easier to get a full licence.
Ya don't even see young lads pissin about on 'twist-and-go' jobbies anymore. I wonder is the 'modified shitbox' an easier a more attractive route.
We all started on the small stuff and ya either got the bug or ya didnt.Simples
Whats gonna happen when all of the 35+ s are too old to swing a leg over a bike??
35kw :thumbsup2:
I think that'll help alot, once the options are open for choice of bikes and better power output things should change, might take a while but it will help:thumbsup2:

I think it's quite expensive to insure the twist an go now,the are in my opinion alot more dangerous then a geared 125,even a step through 50 is safer then those yokes.

Biking is in a lull for a number of reasons,I still have alot of faith in it

it means the thousands of lads with restricters in their bike will be changing them ...more expense . all the old kits will become useless :rolleyes2:

I dunno though - it's nearly every bit as awkward and expensive for the younglads to get started in cages, and the insurance is demented. I would have thought that bikes were at least the affordable starter to the motoring world they always were. Or maybe money is so scarce way fewer are bothering with any of it.

Three or four years ago a mate of mine (guy who owns the local pub, oddly enough! :lbhbh:) suddenly started asking me about bikes and biking. A few weeks later he turns up with a new factory-restricted GSR600 (which he still has - he's looking for a Blackbird) out-of-the-blue at the age of 37 or so. This guy now was about as likely a biker while I know him as I'd be in line for the throne of Japan. And you know what? He loves it. He'll never give it up.

Yep he now knows what we already do, the addiction to bikes is terminal, you never lose it even if you cant ride one any more, you hear a bike in the distance you break a neck to see who and what it is,... great to see another new biker, but do notice at rallies or meets the age group is a lot higher...:thumbsup2:

That's been said for the last 30 years. Over here scooter sales have gone nuts because of the price of petrol, still won't buy one. However I agree that the horsespower wars will stop, not really because of the government, just because who the hell can afford a hyperbike, which are pretty much useless on the street.

If there is to be a future , then the makers need to move on from creating the latest greatest rocket and make bikes that make sense for the average person. I really need to get me something like a Ninja 250 as a commuter. Commuting on the Rex does not make any sense, still do it though :lbhbh: 45 MPG is decent but $250 a set of tires every 3K does not make sense. Whoever said it had to make sense :thumbsup2:
