It's unreal. You'd think once you had the bike everything else wouldn't be so bad. :rolleyes2:

Looking forward to it though. :thumbsup2:

Is there any chance this recessoin might give smaller events that are cheaper to run a chance to shine, hillclimbs, sprints and the like?

Re: how is the recession affecting amateur racing

A Mondello masters meeting costs the guts of a 1000 euro with fuel, accommodation, fresh oil and filter after each meeting, tyres etc... I had sponsors my first year racing but without them it's virtually impossible!!
Got an mx bike and if I like it im gonna be selling up and go mx racing instead..I did my first practice day on Sunday and it cost a grand total of 60euro..
No brainer really.. Could have my R6 on the market very soon:disgust:

Re: how is the recession affecting amateur racing

That's how I got into dirt bikes, couldn't afford to go practicing etc so I was trying to do it all on race day! I ended up trading in an MX bike against my track bike, I could practice in fields, tracks, or where ever, anytime I wanted, close to home too!

Is there a budget form of racing these days or is it just the pre 97? I could never understand why there was never a cheap clubman series, like some of the forgotten era stuff in the UK, earlystocks, tzr250/lc's!

Its gone near impossible to get a sponsor for a set of tires or a race entry.
I've been very lucky with 2 sponsors sticking by me but I couldn't manage to replace the ones who couldn't afford to stay onboard, im still looking though and still hopeful of doing a lot of road racing this year.

ive come so close to sellin up a few times over the last year,im not as bad as some ive only been out of work for the last 5 weeks but its gets more depressing every day,i have the stocktwin built and ready to go racing but if i dont go back to work soon then itll be sold to pay the credit union off.mx ridin is def cheaper but you have to be real careful when buyin a 4 stroke a lot of shite for sale out there.

You must be joking about Pre'97.
Cost me 600-1000 euro per Masters Round, thats not cheap.
Why do people think Pre'97 is cheap?
Good bikes were still over 3 grand (up till last year before the announcement about getting rid of Pre'97 was made), tires are same price and one front and two rear tires will only do two meetings if you laping fast.
Everything else same price as for other classes too, so there are no cheap classes in racing mate.

Re: how is the recession affecting amateur racing

The new production Minitwins class should be relatively inexpensive by comparison with tuned Superpsort 600's or 1,000's.

Same goes for the pre injected 600's class.

The NDM Production 125 class has been giving value for money for years and is one of the few classes with prize money through Steve Harnett's generous Sponsorship.

Change class or look at the way you raise money. Can you improve this ? Can companies/sponsors write off any investment in you against their taxes. What can you do to increase the turnover of your local sponsor's business ?

still id prefer to watch the short circuit and the roads then any other form of two wheeled racing just be a few lean years of it judging by the responses here
maybe it will leave a few new names on the podiums dark cloud silver lining and all that:woots:
