Anyone in Cork to Undercut/racecut Gears?

Hi Guys,

The Busa has started to experience the dreaded 2nd gear slip so I'm pulling the engine and gonna split the crank case. From my research it seems that it might be either of: Worn Dogs on 2nd Gear cogs: Bent shift forks: or Bent shift fork shafts. Or all of the above. I'll have a look before deciding what to do.

I am tempted to undercut 2nd gear cos it's the only gear in the Hayabusa that isn't undercut, so I have the following options:

1. But a new undercut transmission from the US. Big bucks 600 approx
2. Take out 2nd gear and get it undercut. More work and higher possibility of failure.
3. Buy now 2nd gear cogs and have them undercut. Half the price of a transmission but more work.

So, doesn't anyone know of somebody in Cork who would undercut the dogs on my 2nd gear. Needs to be highly precise so I'd only use someone with a good reputation.

Thanks
Tony

If you're keeping the bike, I'd probably be thinking of buying the new transmission.
The gearboxes are shite in them. Mine started jumping out of fifth gear, then a few months later second gear, then I rebuilt the box with all undercut gears.

Yeah, I'm leaning that way myself, thanks bud. I will be keeping it. I have it 13 years now and I'm gonna retire it as my classic in a few years time :-)

What year(s) of Busa does this gearbox issue effect????
I presume Suzuki fixed this eventually?????

As far I know, it's all Gen1 years. Not sure if they fixed it after that with the Gen2 as I wasn't searching. But apparently all of them go eventually depending on how hard they're ridden. Mine is a K1 with 93,000 km on it. I've seen guys on Hayabusa.org saying theirs went at 15k. Apparently drag racing or wheelies dont help :lbhbh:

Why not ask Declan Swanton at Swans Nest Business Park, Pouladuff. He may know someone if he cannot do it himself

Might be worth a call..
Southern Racing Motorcycles in Midleton.
They have a full cnc workshop also as a separate business so they know both.
McDonough Engineering.
Or they might tell you feck off :wassat:
