came on a CD with my 550 .... would assume it comes with all of them tho

The program can be used on its own for planning routes like google map, with the garmin GPS you can then uplaod the route into the gps and i believe you can download routes of the gps to show on the map... not completetly sure tho, never used it with my gps ... dunno if it would work with other manufacturers, but i think its a garmin programe so i doubt it :unsure2:

I must have a look in the box that my nuvi 250 came in, tryin to load up the mapsource but it doesnt work for me when I go to run the app. Even with the hack I found on one of the forums, I still cant get it to work. Hopefully I still have the cd.

You can upload/download waypoints, tracks, maps from GPS to Mapsource and visa versa, store various categories of waypoints on mapsource tidying up your GPS, European+old photo rally ones for example
One very handy function is in setting up a route, if done on the gps and you select 5 towns or cities the gps will go to the center of each town, do it on mapsource and you can drag the route around the outskirts of each city and then upload the route to your gps.
Another nice function is that you can change road type in 6 stages between preferring minor roads and Motorways, its much more versatile than doing it on the GPS, im only getting the hang of it and very impressed so far

Pic from near Kealkil in west Cork yesterday

Here's a handy wee hint. You can find places in Google Maps and transfer directly to your GPS.

Search in Google Maps for where you need to go. In this case I am using the Leitrim Inn Hotel.

The pin with the letter A is the one I need, so I click on the pin which opens a dialogue box.

Click on the Send option, which will open another box.

Select the GPS option, choose your GPS brand and hit Send

You should get this message, then the waypoint will appear in your GPS unit. **

** You may need to update your Garmin communicator in order for the transfer to your GPS unit to work.

Aidan, the send to GPS option is not available on my Google map, using a Zumo, latest firmware...may try the older 550

Mine is up to date

Does not work at the moment with Firefox or IE8
May be that only selected Garmin Gps will work with Google maps

Got mapsource up and running but noticed that the map detail is pretty poor? Even with the option "map detail" set to highest, it doesnt include minor roads, even when you zoom in?
If I wanted to plot a route from Cork to Ahakista for example, according to mapsource, there are no roads on that peninsula...?

Is it just me or is it that way for ye too?

It works alright on my 2720 and on an older 2610 too Bogman and I have tried it with a mates Zumo 550 with no issues at all.

I use FireFox at home and at work and my mate uses IE.

Sorry, but I don't know what the trouble might be at all.
