can ye go to watch you maniacs? my (as of yet un aquired) 33bhp bandit wouldnt be much of a track tool, in fact i'd be doin well to get to mondello without falling asleep on it

Johnny Wishbone
3rd October 2005, 12:02 PM
You can if you want to take the day off work... ^_^ (tis on a Monday).

As for the Bandit, HP don't matter on a trackday, it's what YOU as a rider takes from the day that's important, and believe me, there'll be plenty of lads on Blades & R1s driving around the track like they've never been on a bike before!!

skenny
3rd October 2005, 12:14 PM
I'm hoping to go, do you have to pay in advance?? If it's wet, i presume it's tough luck?

Johnny Wishbone
3rd October 2005, 01:32 PM
[b]If it's wet, i presume it's tough luck?

:hitler: NIEN!!! - when you pay you get a coupon, which, should you not go, can be used at the next trackday.

Reckon I'll just do the afternoon myself - that reminds me, must book it!

Johnny Wishbone
3rd October 2005, 01:35 PM
Anyway, who cares if it's wet!!? I mean, it's frickin Ireland, it's frickin October, it's bound to be wet!!

Seriously though, if it's wet you'll just have to take it a bit easier so you might actually learn more... ^_^ Assuming you don't highside and end up with a mangled bike... :shades:

Yep, I'll be there alright.
Have a voucher for the afternoon session but going to pay the extra few quid to make it a day long session.
Looking forward to it but definitely a little bit nervous at the same time.........

Excellent - good bunch going, hope we all recognise one another ^_^

I'll be riding the white Firestorm, you'll probably hear me long before you see me  I'll be the one drowning out the lovely sound of all the Ducatis :shades:

Having said that, I could be on a little black ZXR400...

In a word SK, yes, almost there.... hopefully she'll be out on the road at the weekend. :)

charlieIRL
6th October 2005, 04:00 PM
had the ZXR all ready and it now has decided to break a feckin valve and it has scored the camahaft. FECK THA.
Anyone got a ZXR 400 head - 1993?

Johnny Wishbone
6th October 2005, 04:09 PM
[b]and it has scored the camahaft.

Scored the camshaft or just the cam lobe??? If it's the camshaft it's ok, just polish it out if you're fussy - if it's the cam you could polish it too if it hasn't gouged it... What happened Charlie, did the stem break or was it the tappet or what??

charlieIRL
6th October 2005, 04:19 PM
scored the lobe & shaft. Lobe has a "U" scored into it and the shaft has rounded off.
Dunno what happened - just after doing valve shimms and got all set up and cousin was out on a test ride and it started to rattle and lost power.
Took head off last night and the valve had broke at both ends. Thankfully it didn't damage the head so new valve should sit properly..........fingers crossed

Johnny Wishbone
6th October 2005, 04:34 PM
[b]scored the lobe & shaft. Lobe has a "U" scored into it and the shaft has rounded off.

Arse... :( You could try Bartons To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. or else Cheshire for the new bits - could you save the camshaft, maybe get it weld filled and reground?? That's a pain Charlie - will you be down at the trackday then?

charlieIRL
6th October 2005, 04:47 PM
i reckon its handier just to get a shaft and new valve.

Dunno if i'm still going but my brother will def be there.

I am indeed Johnny , I normally go into inter on the blade but I presume/hoping the advanced group is a bit slower without the race bikes and the inter is now advanced beginners ? Either way I'll be going after your record of 'best highside at dunlop' lol . Has anyone tried 014's on the track , the last time I was out I used 012ss which were great but I'm not sure about the 014's yet ?

Lads, I read about dropping tyre pressures for the track in the mags. Would those figures, 30 and 29 apply to most tyres on most bikes.

Also, I suppose it's totally different from rider to rider but would you change the suspension settings much from stock for the track??

Yeah, you could drop a couple front and rear from the stock settings alright, which will vary obviously from bike to bike. If it's wet I'd leave them at the stock settings.

The VTR is back on the road and the ZXR rear shock is very soft so I'll be down on the VTR.

About 2 psi from standard is ideal. Don't go dropping them by much more, like a shower of eejits at a track day across the water told us. Your tyre just deforms and if you are overly enthusiastic with letting the air out, you can roll your rubber off the rim, so to speak! No 30 and 29 would not apply to all bikes at all. The rear of the ZX6R is 36psi so check your manual. 29 in a tyre that is meant to be at 36 is not ideal at all.

The ones I was at taking photos at you could just walk in and look. They wouldn't just let you out past the barriers for taking photos unless you sign your life away but as for tipping about the pits and getting as close as you will get on race day, you should not have a problem at all.

Glad to report that Mr skenny is the newest member of MCC (Mondello Crash Club), thanks in no small part to his new rear tyre. (should have kept the old one on) :)
Unlike the chairman of MCC, one Mr Jonny Wishbone, Mr skenny planned his off strategically, ie no photographers around :( Glad to report that rider & bike are both well, no major damage done (except possibly to wallet when buying copious amounts of beer to forget it).

will post some pics of chairman actually getting round Dunlop on two wheels, with engine running :) :) :)

Can't find any reasonably priced track days in Europe but there's plenty on in the UK in Nov/Dec, Cadwell, Silverstone, Snetterton, Oulton Park etc etc... Bike hire is about £150 for the day, and the day itself is between £50 and £90. Ryanair flights will be about €50 or €60 snots. B&B and rental car will be fook all. I'll start a new thread with info once I have it all.

Aren't Ducati Dublin doing something similar to this for Jerez next year? Termi was mumbling something to me over not one, not two, but three pairs of large breasts in Major Tom's.

The again I could have completely misheard him. I did think it odd at the time that Termi was being so polite considering the hour and the company.

The Termignator

This is true, though I can't remember telling you that. A track weekend is being organised in Catalunya and the bikes are being put in a trailer for a reasonable fee. Kim in Ducati Dublin has details.

Now, what's this about large breasts and me being polite? Can't remember a fuggin' thing about Major Tom's apart from sambuca and cider. Were the breasts attached to females and, if so, were they good-lookin'?
