No emmissions or road wurthiness tests on bikes afaik:wassat:

Interesting as I didn't think you could register a 'competition' bike for the road

Doesn't a light kit suggest uprating the wiring/chargins system and all that other leccie stuff?
I was under the impression that it was nigh on impossible to road reg an MX
(or at least in no way worth the hassle you'd need to go through)

Bikes made for racing short circuit that come from the factroy dont have frame numbers but all MX bikes do so they can be made road legal.

only passing on what iv being told and the lady at the revenue and the lad at the nct say any non reg bike thats not new needs emmission test. now i dono if this is a fact or an irishism. but il be able t tell ye in january. as said, motox bikes and enduros have numbers. so can be made road legal. as for lights the old rule was if a bike never had indicators it doesnt have to have them but dono if were like the uk and have day light only reg as iv a few mates with costum bikes that have no headlights but can legally ride in daylight. what i can tell ya is iv only started the process but was told that as my bike is a 06 wr250 its under 300 euro to reg. iv used an old set of cbr400 wheels i have to make motard wheels didnt take much work as i had all the parts and the bits needing to be machined were a mornings work.
download the info from here its all free including the parts to make and such :)

Lemme know how you get on with this one. I'm going down the route of getting an MOT in the north on Single Vehicle Type Approval for my SM CR500AF. I checked with the VRT crowd and they said there was no method of registering a vehicle in the Republic that came with no paperwork from new. If the bike has no evidence of VAT being paid on it when new they may also decide to hit you for it with the VRT. I also think that they calculate the VAT addition on the strength of the new value of the bike... cunts! Fortunately, the single vehicle type approval can be issued to any bike or car that passes the extended MOT, even it it was built from scratch, kit built or significantly modified from original. To transfer it to an ROI plate, you need to have it taxed and insured on a UK plate for 6 months before you can re-reg it. The advantage of this system is that the VAT issue goes away once you have the V5 logbook issued from the UK as the VRT crowd can't tell if VAT was or was not paid, so they vave to assume it was. The fact of the matter is that there is a huge amount of disinformation out there. I am not aware of the bike 'NCT' being necessary or available, and there is currently no method of doing a first registration of a kit car in Ireland. Kit builders all have to go through the UK process. If you use a previously registered chassis as the basis for your bike or car, you can just use the old reg plate from that. That's how I imagine the majority of trikes are built and registered. Some guys go and buy a frame from a registered enduro bike and use the frame numbers from that or get the numbers transfered (dodgy out!!). If anyone has done this process, I would like to know if my info is accurate, if the NCT guys are talking complete horseshite or if there is now a different method of completing this process in Ireland.

i think you might struggle with this one, pretty sure you will need a certificate of conformity from yamaha which you won't get one as its a off road bike, you might get one with the wrf as it can be put on the road, but the yz was never designed for road use. Also you will need to prove the vat was paid so if you bought it from new or know who bought it then no problem. Friend of mine just went through this process with a ktm 300 exc and had all the paper work together except for the proof of purchase a he bought it new so they wouldn't do it without him paying almost 800 euro for vat plus 600 for vrt even though it had over 6000km's on it, so in the end it wasn't worth it

I brought a 2010 yz to the nct center on naas, the dude testing just said, oh yeah another crosser!!
I had a full lighting coil on it, he only insisted it had a low and high beam on it, i only had a dip. also the brake lights had to work off the levers. other than that he siad he would check it and recomend it to revenue for licensing. he said they go on the nct's word and issue log book..
no emission or any crap test like that, quite simple visual and checking of chassis / engine numbers..
i didnt have any cert of newness or road homologation papers just a simple purchase reecipt with VAT no..

Cool! I'm gonna try that. My yoke has dip and main and pressure switches on the front and rear brakes and numberplate lights and a horn and indicators and a speedo and my lighting coil finally turned up!!! That's good news indeed. Might make the paperwork a bit easier too.

Update: 1890 927787 will get you through to the 'Unregistered vehicles' unit of the revenue service. They can book you a VRT inspection appointment. Not too sure how the rest progresses but I explained my situation and they seemed to think that there would be no problem. I believe that an NCT centre will do the inspection and they need the last 7 numbers of the VIN to book it. I'll let ye know how I get on once I get the front end of my yoke back from the machinists, get it all back together, sort the shitty spark out and start making phone calls...

Any joy bro? I am ringing the number I posted a while back next week to see how quick I can get an appointment, but I'm not hopeful of a quick date. The CR is running and roadworthy as far as I am concerned, but I might just call in to Naas to see if I can get the gen on what they are looking for so I dont waste their time and mine...and my money no doubt!!

Yeah, and it all bad....
The VRT inspections crowd want either a COC (Certificate of Conformity) that is usually provided by the manufacturer if you fit homologated enduro kit to an MX-er or a V5 document from the UK... neither are available as the CR was never registered in the UK. Plus as a modded bike, Honda won't issue the COC in Ireland. They say they simply can't get them (spoke to M50 Honda), but I haven't given up just yet.
There is a method of getting a V5 issued for an enduro in the North but I just have not had time to get up there and speak to someone in the know. As far as I know the extended MOT for bikes does not worry about the homologation of the lights etc, and you can essentially get the inspection done with the lights fitted and masked up. The V5 issued will have a 'recommended for day use only' comment but is not a daytime only MOT. I may have to refit the original wheels with some road legal enduro tyres to ensure the appropriate sump ground clearance to allow it to definitely fit into the Enduro technical description, but I might just chance the current clearance. The regs say 300mm to the sump, which the sumo is (just about) but if the measurement is to the lower frame rails, the old wheels have to go on.
All the MOT forms are available from the DVLA website. Oh yeah, and Honda will have to issue an age certificate for the bike, which has to come from the UK to allow you to go for the MOT.
If all else fails, the old Single Vehicle Type Approval system will have to be used, but I don't think it will go that far.
The only other way of doing it would be somewhat dubious....
I'm out of the country a fair bit so getting the time to sort it out is difficult, but I will get around to it and stick up a full description of what worked when I can. Otherwise, I'll ship it out to Italy and see what they can do for me!!

Some good news... Honda UK say they will issue the COC form by post once I provide the VIN. So all is not lost just yet. Approx 5 days by post they say.

make sure you have a good read of it, for the yz and wr's yamaha europe write on it that the bike is not for road use, friend of mine went through this on his 05 wr250, after a little bit of photo shop it read for road use and worked perfectly.

Sent the VIN over the weekend. As the frame has taken a rubbing from the throttle cable routing the first few letters were pretty worn off, but they are all the same for the CRF250 so no problems there. Just waiting to see if they come back with any snags. They mentioned something about the bike being older than 2003 to get the COC, but I'm chancing it anyway.

OK, no COC as they said in the first email. They can provide a Year Of Manufacture Cert for the bike for £30 but I still reckon I'm stuck with going to the MOT route now as the registration office won't accept anything less than a COC. Ho hum.

Will Honda Ireland issue a COC if the bike isnt modded? Ie. a CRF 250?
And is that all the vrt need? Or do you still need to get proof of paying vat?

you will always need proof of paying vat or you will have to pay it again.

Honda Ireland wont do shit for ya. You have to get on to Honda UK. The COC is Ok to get the registration inspection here.

These were the guys who gave me the last mail about the COC after I initially sent the mail to the main Honda inquiries address.
I'm still trying to find the time to get up north to an MOT center. Should have the year of manufacture cert to start the process next week.
