Headed out for my annual trip to Utah on Thursday evening. My bud from Scotland, Mike, is joining me this yera and is riding my Pan.

Had an uneventful ride through the dark and arrive in Indepence, Missouri around 1:00 AM. Up at 0600 the next day and we're off to Colorado. Have 750 miles to do todayt so we had to start early.

My bud Neil from Chicago met up with us in Missuori - he's on a Pan 1300...

Speed limits across Kansas and Colorado are 75 mph, so we safely do 85 mph all day with no issues.:thumbsup2:

Still, we don't make it to Loveland Pass - just west of Denver - until after dark. Not the greatest time for pictures, but we're determined...

We rode in 105F heat for two days and now it's about 40F - feels really cold.

Mike dropped the Pan in a parking area and isn;t comfortable getting off of it on anything but a level paved lot now. Might be a problem in Colorado...

If you run into cops in Eagle CO, tell 'em Terry Simpkins is a big puss and "wipes from the front".

You're dead right about eastern Colorado. Western Kansas is also bad, as is most of Nebraska. Another interesting one: if you chart out your fuel mileage and track it to the map, you'll see it rise and fall in line with the elevation change starting in eastern CO.

I highly recommend the hot springs in Glenwood Springs.

Where are you headed eventually? Moab? Head off the motorway an exit early, for Cisco. It was a water stop for the railroad in the mid-19th and early-20th century. There might be one or two people living there now, I looked but can't find a great photo I had of the PO boxes there. The road between the motorway, Cisco, and Moab is just a ribbon of tarmac across the desert, be careful of antelope, it is "open range".

I always thought the double yellow lines were more of a "suggestion" than a steadfast law.:thumbsup2:

Cam was a GoPro HD mounted on a RAM ball mount that located the camera about 3" above the bar end. I wanted more background inthe frame and not much of the bike. More interested in the view of the landscape.

These roads get pretty beat up over the winter so they resurface them often. It was smooth as shit on this trip.

We would our way around Colorado and headed towards the casinos at Black Hawk for our last night in CO. This included a ride up Mount Evans to over 13,000'. Bikes ran like shit, it was colder than a well digger's ass but the views were worth it.

I'm about 7 miles from my front door and traffic comes to a complete stop. I sit there sweating my ass off in the 95F heat. No filtering allowed in the US and there's cops all over the place.

Some fucker lost his boat off of a trailer he was pulling on the highway. Great. I sit here for almost 45 minutes before I get home.

4,700 miles or so and I'm home.

Can't wait to do it again next year!:thumbsup2:

Fuel:
4,700 miles divided by 33 mpg = 143 gallons X $3.50 each = $500 (360 yo yos)

Food:
Not a lot, more on beer most likely. I don't eat lunch or brekkie and spent about $25 each night for beer and food. 10 nights X $25 =$250 (182 euro). Pizza nights are cheaper, but the guys wanted big steaks a few times. An expensive steak dinner is $45 or so, cheaper steak is less. We ate pizza in the room ($10) a couple of times as well - too tired to go out and look for food. I often miss dinner completely as we get to the room too late and we're not hungry or stuff is already closed. But an average would be $25, you can eat really well on that.

Hotels:

Averaged around $100 per room per night, two to a room, so $50 X 10 nights = $500 (360 Euro)

Total = $1,250 (900 Euro).

The rooms in Gateway are pretty spendy. My wife and sis-in-law met us there and she gets a large, two room suite for about $700 per night. Neil crashed on the livivng room couch free of charge. Mike got his own small room for $150 a night.
Ameristar in Black Hawk was about $200 a night.
Breckenridge, Col,orado was about $200 as well.

We stayed in a bunch of Marriott's on the way out and back for $30 a night $15 each). Wife works for Marriott and we get a substantial discount. Makes paying for more expensive places much easier to swallow.
